La Paz, September 5 (EFE).- Canadian Kelsey Mitchell achieved this Thursday a time of 10 seconds and 154 hundredths in the 200 meters time trial in track cycling, with which she surpassed the record held by German Kristina Vogel with 10.384 since 2013, reported the Ministry of Sports of Bolivia.
Mitchell achieved this record during the second day of classification of the Pan-American Elite Track Championship, held at the velodrome of the Center for Training and Sports Education La Tamborada (CEFED), in Cochabamba, according to a statement from the ministry.
The previous record in this specialty was obtained by Vogel at the Bicentenario Velodrome in Aguascalientes, Mexico, on December 7, 2013 during the Track Cycling World Cup.
The young Canadian has only been cycling for two years, having previously played college soccer, and is now considered the fastest cyclist in America.
Last month, he achieved a record of 10.89 seconds in the speed test, in addition to the team silver medal, at the Pan American Games held at the National Sports Village (Videna) velodrome in Lima.
Mitchell discovered cycling through athletic skills testing at RBC Training Ground, a Canadian program aimed at finding Olympic talent.
