5. Sidney Crosby off the ice: the kid who stayed humble after success
Off the ice, Sidney Crosby tries to stay true to his origins, to this boy who grew up in a working family and who had a special gift for doing extraordinary things with a stick and a pill on the ice.
“I never want to seem like a person who has forgotten where I came from,” Crosby said in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune in 2015.
“I feel affection for the people here and the best way to show it is to keep my feet on the ground.”
Sidney Crosby spends his summers fishing in Nova Scotia and organizing children's camps which, under the name Sidney Crosby Hockey Schoolbegan taking place in 2015. Additionally, it usually donates the profits from its prizes to foundations that support local sports and visit children with cancer.
And in 2009, he created the Sidney Crosby Foundation to “support charities aimed at improving the lives of children in need.”
