The Government of Canada implemented a revolutionary program, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), aimed at providing oral care to millions of uninsured citizens. Since its launch in December 2023, more than 600,000 people have already requested this service.
The primary goal of the CDCP is to ensure that oral health is accessible to all Canadians, regardless of their financial situation. The Minister of Public Services and Procurement, Jean-Yves Duclos, underlined the importance of this program, specifying that will be the largest and most comprehensive in the nation's history, covering up to 9 million uninsured people..
The plan includes a wide range of services, from preventive diagnosis to oral surgery and orthodontics. Health Canada has clearly defined the services covered, ranging from dental exams and cleanings to more complex procedures like root canals and oral surgery.
It is important to note that most services will be available starting in May, with a few exceptions which will require prior authorization and will be available later in November 2024.
