The author of Guayaquil Miguel Antonio Chavez was selected as resident writer by the Center for Creative Writing and Oral Storytelling University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada.

According to information shared by his website page, Chávez will work with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public from January to April 2024. During this period andHe will begin his next narrative project, offer personalized tutoring and lead creative writing workshops.

“Thanks to this program I will be able to combine my artistic and professional passions. This will be a great opportunity to share my experiences in the creative field, both as a Hispanic writer and as a facilitator of creative writing (inside and outside of academia). Likewise, it will be fantastic to know the experiences of the community as creators and readers,” Chávez said in an interview with the institution.

Chávez is a narrator, speaker, translator and screenwriter. He was a finalist for the 2007 Juan Rulfo Prize with the story The fucking homeland, winner of the 2016-2017 Competitive Funds; in 2011 It was chosen by FIL Guadalajara as one of the “25 Best Kept Literary Secrets in Latin America”.

Among his books are The Heimlich maneuver (Altazar, 2010), Blind rabbit in Suriname (Random House Colombia, 2013) and satirical dystopia Me, blessed. (YO)
