Last Thursday marked a key moment for Copa America 2024as the long-awaited group draw took place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami.
This tournament, scheduled from June 20 to July 14 in the United Stateswill see the participation of ten teams from South America, belonging to Conmebol, and six invited teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean, affiliated to Concacaf.
The ceremony was noteworthy, with the presence of distinguished personalities such as Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA; Alejandro Domínguez, president of Conmebol; and Víctor Montagliani, president of Concacaf, among other prominent leaders in world football.
The task of defining the group stage fell to Ronaldinho Gaucho, football legend and Copa América champion with the Brazilian team in Paraguay 1999 and Venezuela 2007. His participation added a touch of emotion and nostalgia to the ‘event.
The groups were divided as follows:
- group A: Argentina, Peru, Chile and Concacaf 5 (Trinidad and Tobago or Canada).
- Group B: Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica.
- Group C: United States, Uruguay, Panama and Bolivia.
- Group D: Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Concacaf 6 (Honduras or Costa Rica).
The tournament promises to be a unique spectacle, with intense encounters between teams from different regions. The city of Miami, chosen for the final, is preparing to welcome the emotion and competitiveness of the Copa América 2024.
