The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced on Sunday that Seville would host in 2024 the final of the Billie Jean King Cup, which took place at the La Cartuja stadium in early November and in which Canada won the title.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, in its capacity as European Sports Region, has confirmed that the Canadian team will be, as reigning champion, one of twelve participants with Italy, current runner-up in 2024, host Spain and the Czech Republic, invited due to their good results over the past five years.
David Haggerty, president of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), showed “I am delighted to bring the Women’s Tennis World Cup back to Seville. Thanks to the work with the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation and the Junta de Andalucía, who share the ITF’s vision for the growth of women’s sport.”
Arturo Bernal, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Andalusian Community, considers “excellent news for Andalusian sport the return of the Billie Jean King Cup”, an achievement that “The work accomplished just two weeks ago is remarkable, when all eyes of women’s tennis fans around the world were on the capital Seville.”
Alongside the designation of the venue for the final, the ITF drew lots for the qualifying rounds, the winners of which will participate in the final in Seville, which resulted in the following duos: Australia-Mexico, Switzerland-Poland, States -United- Belgium, France-Great Britain, Japan-Kazakhstan, Brazil-Germany, Slovakia-Slovenia and Ukraine-Romania.

The Canadians won their first Billie Jean King Cup in Seville (Spain), beating Italy in the final.
During the first individual match, Canadian Marina Stakusic, 18 years old and only 258th in the world, surprised Martina Trevisan (43rd, 30 years old) 7-5 and 6-3. For Stakusic, it was his first victory against a “Top 50” player.
Leylah Fernandez, 21 years old and 35th in the world, obtained the point which gave the title to her country, beating the 30th in the WTA ranking, the Italian Jasmine Paolini, 27 years old, in two sets, 6-2 and 6-. 3 at La Cartuja Stadium, transformed for the occasion from a football field into a covered tennis pavilion.
