Carlos Alcaraz stayed included in the Red Group of the ATP Finals, alongside Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev and German Alexander Zverevwhile world number one, Serbian Novak Djokovic, leads the Green Group, with Italian Jannik Sinner, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dane Holger Rune.
The Murcian will look to become the third Spanish tennis player to win the title which is played out each year among the top eight players and achieve what has eluded him. Rafael Nadal and only two other compatriots have achieved it, Manuel Orantes in 1976 and Álex Corretja in 1998.
It will be the debut of Alcaraz, 20 years old and currently second world player, at the Nitto ATP Finals, which will take place from the 12th to the 19th of this month of November, after last year he was unable to participate due to an abdominal injury when he was going to debut as the top seed.
The Spaniard intends to finish the course of the old Masters tournament on a good note after his rapid and unexpected eliminations at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai and Paris.
It is a challenge for the only Spaniard in the event which brings together the eight best world rackets of the season. In the group stage, the Murcian fell into the red group with Medvedev, 27 years old and world number 3; Rublev, 26 years old and number 5; and Zverev, also 26 and wearing number 8.
In the green group are the the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who at 36 is the number one ATP player; the Italian Jannik Sinner, 22 years old and fourth on the list; the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, 25 years old and who is sixth; and the Dane Holger Rune, 20 years old and occupying tenth position in the ranking.
Djokovic, six-time champion In this final tournament of the season, he aims to break the tie with Roger Federer for the most titles in tournament history. He also aims to finish 2023 ranked first in the world.
Four of this year’s eight individual competitors have won the ATP Finals trophy on one occasion. In addition to Djokovic’s six times, Zverev has done it in two editions and Medvedev and Tsitsipas in one.
Granollers and Zeballos, doubles
The Spaniard Marcel Granollers along with the Argentinian Horacio Zeballos will participate in the ATP finals in the doubles category. The Argentine Hispanic duo, Wimbledon finalist in 2024, is one of the members of the Green Group with that formed by the Mexican Santiago González with the Canadian Edouard Roger Vasselin and that made up of the Argentines Máximo González and Andrés Molteni and the first couple in the world and main favorites the Croatian Ivan Dodig and the Dutchman Austin Krajicek.
The Red Group is made up of the Dutchman Wesley Koolhof and the American Neal Skupski, as well as the Indian Rohan Bopanna with the Australian Mattew Ebden, the American Rajeev Ram with the Englishman Joe Salisbury and the Australians Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kluber.
