Mexico welcomes 16 million tourists until September, 7% more than the same period of the previous year

Mexico recorded the arrival of 16 million international tourists between January and September of this year, representing an increase of 7% compared to the number of visitors reached during the same period of 2022.

In turn, this figure is 13.4% higher than that recorded in the first nine months of 2019, before the pandemic, when the country reached 14.19 million tourists, according to information sent by the Policy Unit migration-registration and identity of people. , published by the Ministry of Tourism.

The main tourist emitting countries between January and September of this year were the United States, Canada and Colombia. Between them, they represented 77% of the total visitors arriving in Mexico, or more than 12.34 million people.

Americans alone represent nearly seven out of ten tourists that Mexico receives, or 68.6% of the total. Until September, a total of 10.98 million visitors arrived in Mexico from the neighboring country, 4% more than in the same period of the previous year and 27.6% more than in 2019.

The increase in Canadian tourist arrivals was 55.9%, reaching a total of 1.70 million people. Compared to 2019, only 2.7% more visitors arrived in the first eight months of the year.

For their part, 553,893 Colombians visited Mexico during the first nine months of the year, still 15.2% less than those who were in the country the previous year, but 24.5% more than in 2019. Of the rest of the nationalities, more than 3.76 tourists were counted. This is an increase of 4.2% compared to the end of September 2022.

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, stressed that the increase in the arrival of international tourists helps trigger tourist activity and generate economic income for the local population.
