Swimming led with 12 records broken in the Chilean capital, records were also broken in track cycling, weightlifting, shooting and archery, where there was a perfect one.

The first in athletics came in the marathon with the Mexican Citlali Cristian Moscote, who with a time of 2h27:12, broke the Pan American Games record of the Peruvian Gladys Tejeda, who was 2h30:55 from Lima 2019.

Canadian Ethan Katzberg in the hammer throw finished second in athletics at Santiago 2023. Katzberg beat American Johnson Kibwe’s record of 79.63, valid since Guadalajara 2011 with a distance of 80.02, but he lost then broken twice more to break the Pan American record of 80.96.

The third was from Argentina Belén Casetta, who gave birth five months ago to her daughter Lina. Five other records were set by the United States: Paige Madden in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:06.45 to beat that of Canadian Emily Overholt of Toronto 2015 who was 4:08.42. Rachel Stege in the 1,500 meter freestyle with a time of 16:13.59 which dethroned Argentina’s Delfina Pignatello who had set it at Lima 2019 with 16:16.54.

In the women’s 200 meter backstroke, Helen Noble set the new mark with a time of 2:08.03, which was previously held by Canadian Hillary Caldwell with 2:08.22 from Toronto 2015. Meanwhile, in the same event men, Jack Aikins with a time of 1:56.58 dethroned his compatriot Sean Lehane, who had held the mark since Toronto 2015 with 1:57.11.

In the mixed 4×100 meter relay, the United States renewed its record (3:48.27) set at Lima 2019, with a time of 3:44.71.
