Trudeau’s accusation triggered a series of reciprocal measures that increased tension between the two countriesstarting with the expulsion of a senior Indian diplomat.

New Delhi copied the measure, ordering the departure of a member of the Canadian embassy from the Asian country, to which it added the freezing of Canadian visas.

Moreover, the India ordered Canada to reduce its diplomatic presence in the countrygoing so far as to withdraw the immunity of 41 of the 62 diplomats on mission.
