Canada and Manitoba invest in promoting the agri-food sector – News

The governments of Canada and Manitoba are investing nearly $2.4 million over two years through the Canadian Sustainable Agriculture Association’s infrastructure and capital investment program. Canadian Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture, CAP) to support a $52.8 million investment project in Winkler Meats. The Manitoba government has approved more than $7.8 million in funding and tax credits, in addition to the Sustainable CAP contribution.


The public funding will be spent on new processing equipment and a high-capacity packaging line. The expansion is a joint venture between Winkler Meats and Johnsonville Sausage.which partly sources its sows from Western Canada.


The project will increase processing volume and double the number of jobs at the facility, up to a total of 155 full-time positions. This will divert millions of pounds of exports to the United States, reducing the number of trucks transporting live animals and the greenhouse gases associated with transportation.
