Russia accuses Canada of “flirting with Nazism” and announces measures to honor a Nazi fighter
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it would take measures against Canadian authorities in response to recent tribute to Ukrainian Yaroslav Hunkawho fought alongside Nazi Germany during World War II, which is why Moscow accused Ottawa of “flirting with Nazism“.
“We will take the necessary measures in the context of Russian-Canadian relations which are going through a deep crisis because of the government in Ottawa.“, reported the Russian diplomatic portfolio in a statement in which it also criticized the fact that the ideology recently defended by Canada is “permeated with hatred towards Russia”.
“Their culture, their religious and traditional values have roots linked to Nazism. It is no coincidence that monuments to the leaders of Ukrainian nationalism were erected in this country and the vast majority of Nazis who were granted asylum, like Yaroslav Hunka, live their lives in peace, praised and defended (…) as fighters against Russian communism,” the ministry added.
Thus, Russian diplomacy appealed to “healthy strengths of Canadian society“so that they denounce it”fascisification“of the history and daily life of their country, also sponsored by an executive who takes “Russophobia” as its flag.
The controversy over Recognition of the Hunka reached such a point that the Polish ambassador to Ottawa, Witold Dzielskicriticized that the Ukrainian should not even be in Parliament, but rather “should be held accountable” for what the Nazi combat battalion he was part of did during World War II, the TV channel reports Canadian CTV.
