The family of Carlos Tomas Aranda Bugoina Mexican missing in Canada, accused authorities in that country of acting in “bad faith” after confirming that the body found in Osoyoos Lake matched that of the man from Oaxaca.
In a brief press release published on August 24, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced that the body found two days earlier at this location is that of Carlos Tomás, who was last seen on July 7, 2023 in the province of British Columbia.
“The Osoyoos RCMP are working with the Coroners Service to try to determine how, where, when and in what manner the man died,” Canadian authorities said at the time.
However, relatives of the 30-year-old young man assured in a statement that the Canadian police had acted irresponsibly, since the identification of the located body was carried out without any type of scientific support.
They indicated that the body found was in a state of decomposition which made its respective identification difficult, so it was necessary to take DNA samples to determine if, in fact, it is Carlos Tomas.
However, they stressed that these samples were not taken and no legal autopsy protocol was applied. “What happened is a violation of human rights, because the identity of a body found in a lake in the region was affirmed, without having a minimum of scientific basis”, we read in the report sent by Carlos’ brother, Josué Aranda.
In this sense, they indicated that to date, no expertise has been carried out to verify the identity of the remains found, and no DNA sample has been taken from Octavio Arandafather of the Mexican.
Faced with this situation, the Chancellor Alicia Barcena He indicated on social networks that he would be in permanent contact with the Aranda Ortega family with the aim of “providing them with all the consular assistance they need”, as had already been mentioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE ) two days ago.
Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin was born in Oaxaca and completed professional studies at the Autonomous University Benito Juárez (UABJO), where he obtained a diploma in Development and Tourism. At the age of 30, he decided to travel to Canada with the aim of working on a farm in Osoyoos, a town located near the border with the United States (USA).
His father, Octavio Aranda, commented in an interview for UNOTV that his son had attended a meeting with colleagues July 7. However, during the meeting, an argument broke out that forced the young Oaxacan to leave the place where he was.
This is how Carlos arrived at a hotel in the area, where he asked the staff for help. But for reasons still unknown, the Mexican ran in the middle of the night. From that day on, nothing was known of his fate.
After being reported missing, his father requested an emergency passport from the SRE so that he could travel to Canada and participate in the search for his son.
