Les Arts brings together Orlinski, Finley and Schuen to perform in eight operatic evenings in the 2023-2024 season

VALENCIA, August 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Les Arts brings together voices such as Jakub Józef Orlinski, Phillipe Jaroussky and Javier Camarena, in ‘Les Arts és Grans Veus’, and those of Lise Davidsen, Gerald Finley, Ermonela Jaho, Andrè Schuen and Ekaterina Semenchuk, in ‘Lied’ to star of eight “essential” lyrical evenings of the 2023-2024 season.

As the Generalitat said in a statement, countertenor Jakub Józef Orlinski will be the first of the three great singers who will pass through the Valencian theater as part of ‘Les Arts és Grans Veus’.

Critically acclaimed both for his lyrical side and in concert as well as for his recording career, Orlinski will perform his new program ‘Beyond Good and Evil’, where he rescues little-known songs and tunes from Italian Baroque composers such as Monteverdi, Kapsberger, Cavalli, Frescobaldi, Saracini, Krell, Strozzi, among others.

On November 30, another of the “most beloved” countertenors on the international circuit, Philippe Jaroussky, returns to the main hall, who had already captivated Valencian audiences during his first visit in 2020 with his “wide range and technique. refined” in a recital with works by Schubert.

On this occasion, the French artist offers the program ‘Forgotten Arias’, one of his “most acclaimed” works, in which he reviews arias by Gluck, Hasse, Jommelli, Myslivecek and Traetta, accompanied by the chamber ensemble Le Concert de la Loge, conducted by violinist Julien Chauvin.

Renowned Mexican tenor Javier Camarena puts the finishing touches to the third edition of the “Grans Veus” cycle on January 21, in a concert that marks his official debut on the Les Arts program.

Camarena, awarded the prize for best male singer at the International Opera Awards 2021, is the new benchmark in the bel canto singer’s repertoire. He will give a recital dedicated to one of the greatest composers of this style, Francesco Paolo Tosti, in which he will also include songs by other authors

“THE ARTS IS A LIE”

For its part, ‘Les Arts és Lied’ will once again bring Valencian theater closer to the best performers of this genre, which has established itself as one of the main commitments of the program with performances by Lise Davidsen, Gerald Finley, Ermonela Jaho, André Schuen and Ekaterina Semenchuk.

Scandinavian diva Lise Davidsen returns to the Grande Salle on October 11 for the premiere of the series, accompanied on the piano by James Baillieu. On this occasion, he offers a repertoire with German and Nordic roots, with works by Edvard Grieg, Alban Berg, Franz Schubert and Jean Sibelius.

Gerald Finley will star on December 3 in another major Arts premiere. The Canadian bass-baritone, accompanied by his pianist tandem Julius Drake, offers a varied program of ‘Lieder’ with particular attention to Schubert and Schumann.

Ermonela Jaho, one of today’s “most beloved” sopranos, will sing for the first time in the Calatrava building as part of the “Les Arts és Lied” cycle. During his visit to the Arts on February 4, he offers a “cautious” recital that oscillates between the bel canto repertoire and French and Italian romanticism, with Rubén Fernández Aguirre at the piano.

Andrè Schuen will return to the Valencian Opera on March 14 to resume his long-awaited collaboration with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV), which he had to cancel in 2022 for health reasons.

Polish director Anna Sulkowska-Migon, winner of the prestigious La Maestra competition for directors, will lead the evening, with ‘Idyll of Siegfried’ by Wagner and a selection of ‘Lieder’ from ‘Des Knaben Wunderhorn’ by Mahler. After their performance, Schuen and the OCV will embark on a short tour, during which they will offer the same program at the Auditori de Castelló (March 16) and at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona (March 19).

Russian mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk will close the Lied cycle on April 14. Semenchuk will dedicate the recital to the Russian repertoire, with songs by Mikhail Glinka and Modest Mussorgsky, and piano accompaniment by Semyon Skigin.
