On August 20, more than 13 million Ecuadorians are allowed to go to the polls and elect a presidential pair, as well as 137 members of the assembly.
The process occurs after President Guillermo Lasso’s decision to declare the cross dead last May.
During the day there will also be consultations at the national level on oil extraction in the ITT block and in the metropolitan district of Quito there will be questions on mining in the Chocó Andino.

Voting is optional for migrants, so they will have no sanction if they do not vote. He National Electoral Council announced that no constituencies will be activated due to the unforeseen nature of the process.
According to official data, there are approximately 409,000 Ecuadorians residing in 40 countries who are registered in the three foreign constituencies: Europe, Asia and Oceania; Latin America, Caribbean and Africa; and, Canada and the United States.
When will the 2023 general elections take place in Ecuador?
In last February’s elections, 23,245 people registered to vote electronically, 77% of whom voted.
To register for telematic voting, you must:
- Enter the site vote-telematico.cne.gob.ec
- press register here.
- Enter your ID or passport number to proceed with biometric validation. (It does not matter if these documents are expired)
- Answer security questions to validate personal information.
- Register your email address and phone number.
- Wait on the day of the vote for an email containing a one-time password to reach you to proceed with the vote.
