The Serbian decides not to play in Toronto the second week of August
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic will not be at the Toronto (Canada) tournament, the sixth Masters 1000 of the season which takes place from August 7 to 13, due to “fatigue”, as confirmed by the organization on Sunday.
The world number two, who lost the Wimbledon final to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz a week ago, told the Canadian event he needed to rest thinking about the home stretch of the season and, surely in particular, the US Open.
The Toronto tournament, which the Serb has won four times, announced Djokovic’s withdrawal due to “fatigue” and left some statements from the 23rd “great” champion on its official website. “I’ve always liked Canada, but after talking with my team, we think it’s the right decision,” said ‘Nole’.
“We are obviously disappointed with Djokovic’s decision not to play in Toronto this year. He is a fantastic player and we know our fans have been looking forward to seeing him at Sobeys Stadium. We will miss him but we still have a long list of sensational players confirmed for this year’s tournament, including 41 of the top 42 players in the world,” said tournament director Karl Hale.
