Defending champions Dominican Republic beat Canada 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-15) on Tuesday in their debut at the fifth edition of the U-23 Women’s Pan American Cup at Arena Sonora in Hermosillo, Mexico.
The first-set points party even happened on numerous occasions, leveling off at 23 when Canada snatched a set point from them before the Dominicans finished 26-24. The Dominican Republic entered with more power to finish the next two sets with comfortable leads.

Camila De la Rosa, Captain of the Republic
Dominican: “We ignored the Canadian players and their way of playing. We did a good job of analyzing what they were doing, so we nailed the game to win it. I consider that our blocking was very important for the victory”.
Lucy Borrowski, captain of Canada: “We came in strong. Dominican Republic are a tough team and we lost our fight a bit, we were playing smart and I think we can come out stronger tomorrow.”
Wagner Pacheco, coach of the Dominican Republic: “I think the first set was very tight because I didn’t know the Canadian team, we went out blind. After the first set, we played very well, the service was powerful and the counter-attack. What’s good is that we learned quickly to face Canada and that made things easier for us. We missed some things that are normal in a premiere.
Carolyn O’Dwyer, Canada coach: “We came out strong, but we struggled a bit with first contact and made too many mistakes. With a new team, we are getting better and better. There is definitely room for improvement. »
