Fernando Alonso makes the most of Aston Martin on unfavorable track in Austria

Yes, there are definitely hints and clues. There are certainly circuits in those who do, of course, others where yes, others where maybe… and others where not. In which there is nothing. in which to fight. Struggle. in which it should be known that the protagonism will be of others. This is what happened to Aston Martin. This is what happened to Fernando Alonso. This is what happened in Austria compared to Canada.

because if in Gilles Villeneuve That’s when we saw the slightest distance, under normal circumstances, between the AMR23 and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, at Spielberg we saw an unbeatable RB19. To a superior Ferrari. and even to a McLaren, that of Lando Norris, with a good rhythm. We saw, throughout the weekend, an Aston Martin struggling.

To a car that was in qualifying, but not so bright. That he was in the sprint, but not so bright. That he was in the race, but not so bright. It was not behind the Red Bull. It wasn’t the biggest opposition for Verstappen. It was for others. As much as Alonso tried, so much Fernando tried to fight.

The only one in the top ten with hard

As much as he was looking for the different. Especially since it was the only one in the top ten that was hard. Yes, it was about to work, but no. Because at the start, he passed Stroll. Because he was able to put pressure on Norris with different, more durable tyres…but the VSC, which was known to come, came out too soon.

And he came in too early to change the tyres. Wasn’t planned. He lost the advantage. Lost that longer lasting rubbers. Means, and already more or less the same as the others. There, the rival was Lando Norris. Not Hamilton, who receives a 5 second penalty. It was the McLaren. Pérez, with the Red Bull, passed without any difficulty.

I was sixth, and still watch norris as a goal. His final laps showed that the Aston Martin, in his hands, had pace. Because they warned him that the English could have problems with the limits of the track. Because those white lines represented 5 seconds of penalty for 30% of the grid. Because it was time to push.

He tightened, and not exactly a little. Reduces in just three laps the difference with Norris from 7 to 4.2 seconds do his part. Wait and see if Norris had that penalty…but who knows how ‘slow’ Lando was to make sure that didn’t happen.

Next stop: United Kingdom

Yes, it looks like a step back from Canada… but that’s how this World Cup is. Red Bull has the best car and behind them are Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin. One day it will be one, another day it will be another… Next stop, Silverstone.
