These countries can access a program that allows you to quickly obtain authorization to study in Canada

Canada is one of the most desired countries by thousands of Latin Americans who are looking for a destination to settle, whether for work, study or business.

Its multiple programs are knownthat although they are rigorous in the processes and requirements they ask for, they offer legal alternatives to travel and settle in this country.

One of these programs is Student Direct Stream (SDS)a process that allows candidates to obtain a permit to study in Canada as quickly as possible.

Depending on the application and the country from which it is carried out, thanks to the SDS, you can obtain a study permit in just 20 days. However, some requests may take longer.

The speed of processing depends mainly on the applicant providing their biometrics as soon as possible and meeting all eligibility conditions.

But beware, those concerned must take into account, as the Government of Canada points out, that the study permit is not a visa and, in itself, does not allow them to travel or enter Canada.

“You may also need a visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (ETA). If you do, we will issue your visitor visa or ETA along with your study permit”they explain.

The Student Direct Stream is available in 14 countriessome of them from Latin America:

  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Peru
  • Brazil
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • China
  • India
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Vietnam

Requirements include a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary institution and live outside of Canada at the time the application is submitted.

Have paid the tuition fees for the first year of studies and have a guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) of CAD 10,000 (This is a low-risk, rate-assured, deposit-type investment that can be purchased at banks in that country).

In addition, if required, candidates must undergo a medical examination before applying, obtain a police certificate and have all school records available (elementary, secondary and university, if applicable).

In addition, there are language requirements. For English, applicants must submit an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each skill (Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening); and for French, a score on the French Evaluation Test (TEF), which is equal to a score on the Canadian Language Benchmark (NCLC), of at least 7 in each skill.

But beyond the speed of the process, other advantages of applying for this type of program also stand out. Among them, the possibility for the partner and the children to accompany the student, as well as options to apply for permanent residence or a work permit at the end of the studies.
