Washington, July 3 (EFE).- Competitor Molly Schuyler revalidated her victory Monday in the annual burger eating contest held in Washington for US Independence Day by swallowing 34 burgers in ten minutes.
This is the ninth time Shuyler, a native of Maryland, has won the competition held annually by the American capital’s Z-Burger burger restaurant and won the $2,000 prize.
The contestant beat Dan “Killer” Kennedy of Pennsylvania, who came in second with 32 burgers, and Canadian Joel Hansen, who came in third with 27 burgers.
However, his performance was a little lower than last year, when he managed to devour 37 burgers in ten minutes.
After winning, Schuyler said the competition is “a lot of fun” and that what she does with hamburgers, she can also do with “hot dogs” or cheesecake treats.
The woman, who has participated in dozens of food contests, joked that to prepare she went to a breakfast buffet.
In the United States, there are many contests to swallow food at high speed, but the most popular for Independence Day is the one organized each July 4 by the “hot dog” chain Nathan’s in New York.
The legendary Joey Chestnut won this contest again last year by downing 63 hot dogs in ten minutes.
