The national deputy and former governor of San Juan, Jose Luis Giojaaccused the governor of San Juan, Sergio Unac to “turn around like a stocking”, after Uñac refused to sign the impeachment petition against the President of the Supreme Court, Horace Rosatti, promoted by the government. “Governor @sergiounac of San Juan turns around like a stocking once again. He has spent days complaining about justice for funds that we San Juan residents are going to lose. Today, he did not sign the impeachment petition against the head of the court. Everything is for his new candidacy, ”launched Gioja on his Twitter account. And it is that Gioja and those who oppose Uñac assure that behind the refusal of the governor of San Juan to support the request hides his ambitions to participate in the next elections to be reelected.
The conflict began in December 2022, when Uñac announced his candidacy to be re-elected governor in 2024. Immediately, Gioja, leader of space Justicialist Loyaltyinterpreted this act almost as treason, arguing that Uñac cannot be a candidate for governor or vice-president, since according to provincial laws a candidate can be re-elected up to two times.
The reason space Gioja and the opposition disapprove of this possibility is that they count him for three terms: Uñac was lieutenant governor at the time 2011-2015governor of the 2015-2019 and re-elected for the period 2019-2023. The controversy lies in the fact that, according to the cons, having been running mate of José Luis Gioja in 2011, this would put an end to his chances of being re-elected. On this, Uñac said that “the people of San Juan will determine who they want to govern”.
Those who question Uñac’s attempt claim that his refusal to sign Rosatti’s trial request is due to the fact that he seeks to avoid a conflict with the court which, if the opposition advances in its attempt to prevent his candidacy, will be the one who must decide on the possible re-election. In order not to irritate the judges, Uñac would have chosen not to sign.
This thesis is based on Uñac’s position on the judgment of supreme court of justicefavorable to City of Buenos Aires in the sharing of co-participation. According to what Gioja denounces, Uñac had categorically opposed the decision of the Court, and went so far as to affirm that one of his main motivations for being reelected was “the defense that we must carry before the things of the people of San Juan”, in the face of “different situations at the national level that threaten the construction of a serious federalism”. But despite his position, Uñac decided not to sign the request for a lawsuit against Rosatti.
