Fernando Alonso couldn’t have been clearer in defining what he experienced in Free Practice 1 of the Canadian GP. The Asturian, Aston Martin driver, called it “shameful” the fia disaster with the cameras on the track which prevented filming more than a few minutes in the first rehearsal session at the Gilles Villeneuve.
And it is that the Gasly affair, which ended with a red flag, was a preview of what was to come. Those two minutes were the only thing they shot and tested on the Canadian track. AND Alonso didn’t cut a hair.
“Once in a while, as a sport, I feel like we shot ourselves in the foot” it is said.
But then comes the line: “These things are a little awkward. We didn’t have a plan B.”
“I’m sorry for the fans. They arrived early and we couldn’t give them a Free 1,” he insisted.
Because Alonso underlines it with insistence: “It is a normal day. It continues to be so, because it falls a shower and we continue”.
“This is the bumpiest track I’ve ever ridden…”
He’s not the only critic, as Hamilton also puts the organization in his sights: “Sorry to the fans… and the track is the bumpiest we’ve seen in a long time.”
Bad time to fail as many tracks and countries want to enter or return to F1.
