World Baseball Classic: Canada shows no mercy for Brits

The Canadian team beat Great Britain in an early and fast victory with a score of 18-8

Tyler O’Neill had four hits and four RBIs, Freddie Freeman added two hits and Canada beat Great Britain 18-8 in the World Baseball Classic.

The match only lasted seven innings, as the tournament has a mercy rule during the group round. If a team leads by 10 or more runs after seven innings, the game is over.

Canada scored in every end, including five runs in the first, four in the third and six more in the fourth.

Great Britain took a 3-0 lead early in the first but had a tough afternoon from the mound, allowing 17 hits and walking 16. Harry Ford was the highlight of his team, with a three-run homer.

Akeel Morris was beaten, giving up five runs in two-thirds of an inning, and Phillippe Aumont took the win.

Venezuela dominates Sector A

Salvador Pérez homered, hit two doubles, hit a single and had five RBIs as Venezuela went undefeated at the World Baseball Classic with a 9-6 win over Puerto Rico.

A night after beating the Dominican Republic 5-1 on their debut, the Venezuelans (2-0) unleashed a vicious attack in the first two innings against Puerto Rican starter José Berríos.
