The company ensures that “everything is in order” and that in the next few days we will know when she can leave for Newfoundland (Canada).
The Government Delegate in Galicia, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, met this Tuesday with the relatives of the victims of the Galician fishing boat ‘Villa de Pitanxo’, where he informed that the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda formalized the contract with the ACSM to the wreckage, so a ship is already “available” in Vigo to undertake the operation.
This is what Besteiro told the media after the first meeting with the families since taking office, which took place at the headquarters of the Pontevedra Government Sub-Delegation, because the relatives requested it to facilitate the task to more people. be able to go.
The representative of the central executive explained that this Tuesday the ministry finally sent the contract to the winning company, ACSM Shipping, which has already signed it, so now it is necessary to inform the national court (AN), which is the one who investigates the judicially.
Besteiro made himself available to families with the aim of “coordinating and strengthening” the transfer of information. This was precisely one of the requests made by relatives during the meeting. They also asked the ministry to send all the documentation requested by the national court to speed up the procedures and to be able to begin the descent to the ship as soon as possible.
The families’ spokesperson, María José de Pazo, expressed her unease on understanding that the government was slow to send the reports requested by the judge on the case.
Asked when she expects it will finally be possible to leave for Newfoundland, she predicted that the operation will be further delayed, as it is now the NA who must agree with the company on the date on which it will take place.
“ALL IN ORDER”
However, José Cubeiro, general manager of ACSM Shipping, the company that was awarded the contract to go down to “Villa de Pitanxo”, stressed that “everything is in order” after signing the contract.
Despite the fact that this Monday he himself warned that either the document would soon be signed or the operation could be canceled, this Tuesday in statements to Europa Press he sent a message of hope, stressing that there is still no date, but that the ship is in Vigo already “available” and that in the next few days we will know when it can leave for Canadian waters.
The Galician fishing vessel ‘Villa de Pitanxo’ sank 450 kilometers off Newfoundland in February 2022, killing 21 of the 24 sailors on board.
