Carlos Sainz finished fifth at the Miami Grand Prix, while Charles Leclerc could only be seventh. Ferrari continues to have racing pace as its weak point, Vasseur, points out that they are not able to “put it all together” to get the most out of the car.
“It was a tough weekend and we had a tough race Today. I think the pace was right, but we’re not able to put it all together,” commented the Ferrari team principal after the race in Miami.
If Alonso’s Aston Martin proved to be ahead of the Ferraris, those of Maranello could not beat the Mercedes either yesterday. Sainz saw Russell take fourth from him as he passed him on the track and Leclerc was over 38 laps behind Magnussen and although he consolidated more overtakes in the later part of the race he couldn’t beat Lewis Hamilton and finished seventh.
Vasseur says part of his problems stem from the car’s inconsistent behavior, a perception he shares with Leclerc. According to the team boss, there are too many differences between the two cars, apart from between the tires and even between the laps.
“We were too inconsistent from car to car and lap to lap.a, but we need to understand why,” Vasseur said.
“It’s not just the race because at certain stages of the race we were good. Carlos’ first stint with the mediums was good, but it was just the opposite for Charles. The inconsistency is not only between the tyres, Charles was more efficient with the hard, Carlos with the medium… But also from lap to lap we were a bit inconsistent”, he explained. .
Thus, Vasseur assures that they must work on this aspect in order to take a step forward.
“Really we need to put the spotlight here. It is essential for us”, he underlined to conclude.
