Empaque Don Jorge opens for the mango season, boosting its capacity

Empaque Don Jorge (El Original) opens its doors for the new mango season, improving its capacity with the expansion of its facilities which now have more than 155,000 square feet.

The new space allows the operation of ten packaging lines, in which more than 15 different brands are processed for growers from all over Mexico and some of the largest importers of conventional mangoes in the United States.

Soon they will also start packaging Ataulfo de Crespo organic magos from El Grupo Crespo orchards in Nayarit, the company reported.

Empaque Don Jorge is the largest hydrothermal packing house in Mexico and Latin America and is the packing center for The Crespo group And RCF distributors with its three own brands, Crespo Organic, RCF and Mango King, which is the company’s specialty mango brand (named after Alan Álvarez, known as the Mango King).

The facility was built by Roberto Crespo Fitch in the early 1970s and was completely modernized by the Crespo brothers a few years ago. With the start of the mango season, the factory will help ease the pressure on the fruit supply by packing more than 15 of the most demanded brands in the United States and Canada.

The company said two packaging lines are dedicated full-time to the Crespo Organic brand, including a special SKU line dedicated to the company’s many packaging SKUs such as Net Bags and A Case for Consumers.

Additionally, there is a separate processing and packaging section dedicated solely to Canadian exports for mangoes that are not hot water treated (organic and conventional).

This modern, remodeled and upgraded packing station now includes 11 stainless steel hydrothermal tanks that allow the simultaneous processing of over 64,000 kg of mangoes with the USDA approved hot water system, while cooling equipment allows rapid cooling of processed fruit in seven cold rooms, as well as pre-cooling and post-cooling facilities.

All high tech, efficient and worker friendly stainless steel machines, washers, graders, polishers, conveyors and widely spaced packing lines are now ready to handle the large volume of mangoes that will arrive with the season and to meet demand during Mango Mania del Verano.

When processing begins at full capacity, Empaque Don Jorge will ship approximately 16-18 truckloads per day (nearly a million pounds of mangoes per day!)
