According to Bolo, which means “Be on the lookout” in Spanish, Canada’s most wanted fugitive is a Latino man who is accused of shooting and killing a Colombian soccer referee.
Authorities are looking for Christian Cuxum, 19, on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for the attack on referee Edwin Farley Alvarado Quintero, 49, of Woodbridge during a game at the North La Liga Sports Complex from York on October 9th.
Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw announced the $250,000 reward, noting that it will only be available until November 30, 2023 for information leading to the arrest of the Guatemalan-born Cuxum.
The Bolo program began five years ago and aims to highlight cases involving the most wanted suspects by Canadian police.
The announcement was made Monday in Yonge-Dundas Square, where the area was filled with 25 full-size cardboard cutouts bearing images of the wanted people using their approximate weight and height.
The announcement was followed by Alexandra Barrera, Quintero’s widow, and her two children, who said the family were happy to recently move to Canada from Colombia, adding that the day was the Colombian’s 50th birthday.
“We thought we lived in the safest place in the world. To the man who took Edwin’s life: you destroyed us. You destroyed our family. You destroyed our plans. Our dreams. Our sense of security. Our everything. You can’t do this right. But if you surrender, you will allow us to take our next step in this nightmare.”
