The warning to Juan Guaidó to enter Colombia

This April 24, Juan Guaidó announced that he had arrived in Colombia with the aim of attending the summit convened by President Gustavo Petro; dialogues with which we seek to resume the dialogues between the party in power and the Venezuelan opposition.

“I just arrived in Colombia the same way millions of Venezuelans did before me, on foot,” Guaidó said in a statement.

However, Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva referred to the situation when asked about Guaidó’s presence in Colombia and his intention to participate in the meeting:

“No, we don’t know where Guaidó is. The truth is that it is not known, it is obviously not that they want to participate, they are not invited. There, he transcended in some networks that I had invited him. I don’t know Guaidó, I haven’t had contact with him and naturally if he doesn’t show up he’s at risk, because he entered inappropriately and in Colombia we respect the laws.

It should be noted that during said meeting the presence of members of President Nicolás Maduro’s regime, nor of the opposition, was not considered.

Guaidó said he hopes the summit will ensure “that the Maduro regime returns to the negotiating table in Mexico and agrees on a credible timetable for free and fair elections as a solution to the conflict”.

Regarding the methodology of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs explained that the invited countries have already been defined. It will start with a reserved session and at the end there will be an official statement detailing the conclusions reached.
