Erik Martorell takes bronze in Milton Nations Cup Qualifier

MADRID, April 22 (EUROPEAN PRESS) –

Spanish cyclist Erik Martorell won the bronze medal in the Nations Cup day two elimination round in Milton (Canada), a medal that is Spain’s first in the Canadian event.

The Catalan distance runner managed to position himself in the group of five runners who fought for the victory, which also included Corbin Strong from New Zealand, Mark Stewart from Great Britain, Blake Agnoletto from Australia and Matthijs Buchli from the The Netherlands.

After Strong fell from the fight, Martorell went from wide to try and surprise his opponents and eventually secured third place. Buchli was proclaimed champion and Agnoletto won the silver medal.

In the team sprint event, Alejandro Martínez, Pepe Moreno and Ekain Jiménez qualified with the eighth fastest time for the first lap, where they lost to world champions Australia. Meanwhile, Laura Rodríguez finished fourteenth in the elimination test.

On day three, Helena Casas will compete in the individual sprint, while Sebastián Mora will compete in the men’s omnium and Pepe Moreno and Alejandro Martínez in the men’s keirin.
