Havana, April 16 (ACN) Cuban and Canadian women’s teams Today they will play the fourth and last double date of the preparatory matches, during the already traditional and very successful annual visit of the girls from the north country to the island.
The directives of the two teams have agreed to face their respective senior and under-23 teams, with a view to the next international competitions which are approaching them.
According to the competitive calendar, the seniors will have to play the second pre-World Cup phase and the under-23s will participate in the first Pan American championship based in La Guaira, Venezuela.
For the young Patricia Landry, manager of the Canadian team, these friendly matches against Cuba are very profitable.
We chose Cuba because women’s baseball is of a good level there and the proof is that they occupy the seventh place in the world ranking. Cubans have good baseball fundamentals, are very seasoned in the game and know how to use many variations, Landry told the Cuban News Agency.
Canada, which since 2005 has always come to Cuba to carry out this preparation base, is the third team in the world ranking, behind Japan and Chinese Taipei, and ahead of the United States.
Here in Cuba we are up against some very capable players, and ours too are taking advantage of this trade to start the Canadian league in great shape which starts next month. Moreover, it is a pleasure for us to come to Cuba and learn a little more about its people, she affirmed.
Finally, Landry judges that all the objectives of his visit to the Island have been exceeded.
These four games for each of our senior and under 23 teams allowed their members to have international experience of playing against women, because in Canada it is very difficult. We train a lot there, but we have very few matches and this year we want to have good international results, said the Canadian coach.
