The Weeknd will present his series at Cannes with the creator of “Euphoria”

Paris, April 13 (EFE).- The series “The Idol”, created jointly by singer The Weeknd and author of “Euphoria” Sam Levinson, will be presented, out of competition, at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, have announced the organizers on Thursday.

Abel Tesfaye, artistically known as The Weeknd, is also the lead, along with Lily Rose Depp, and executive producer of the HBO original series.

The plot revolves around an unlucky singer eager to reclaim her pop star throne when she meets a mysterious club owner from Los Angeles (USA) with a dark past.

The Weeknd is one of the biggest stars in world pop right now thanks to albums like “After Hours” (2020) and huge hits like “Blinding Lights”, “Can’t Feel My Face”, ” Starboy” or “I Feel”. It’s coming”.

Besides his musical career, the Canadian singer has also tried his luck in the past in cinema and television on an ad hoc basis. For example, in 2020, he was the writer for the episode “A Starboy is Born” of the animated series “American Dad!”.

As an actor, his most prominent role was in the movie “Uncut Gems” (2019), where he brought a fictionalized version of himself to life. He also directed some of his music videos such as “Try Me” (2018).

For his part, Levinson triumphed on the small screen with “Euphoria”, HBO’s shock and successful series with Zendaya.
