La Mar de Músicas announces its Canada Special with a poster by Cartagena painter Ángel Mateo Charris. A remarkable poster designer with close ties to the festival, he paid tribute to two of his favorite Canadian artists in the image of the festival: the painter Lawrence Harris and the cartoonist Seth.

The image of La Mar de Músicas for this 2023 was presented this Wednesday, March 22 at the studio charriswhere the painter was accompanied by the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo.

“The greatness of La Mar de Músicas has been achieved not only by the technicians of this town hall who make it possible, also by their ambassadors, which has many and very good ones. There are so many people who love our festival and Charris is one of them. He is one of the great ambassadors that the festival has, which boasts of La Mar de Músicas, just as we boast of it; since he is, without a doubt, one of the most prestigious designers that we have in Cartagena”, underlined the mayor of Cartagena during the presentation of the poster.

“It was time for me to make a poster for La Mar de Músicas. Because although the first years of the festival he advised and participated in the conception of the images of the festival, there was no poster as such of one of his works” added Arroyo.

“I really wanted to do the poster for La Mar de Músicas. My relationship with the festival is great, but I hadn’t done the poster yet. Also, my relationship with North America is great,” said Charris pointed out.

“I made an image of the Canadian winter which, I hope, will refresh the Cartagena summer. Moreover, I took the opportunity to pay tribute to two artists who influenced me a lot, such as Lawren Harris of the Group of 7painter of the 20s and 30s, and Seth, one of my favorite comic artists, author of Clyde Fans (with the store sign).
