With a time of 56:57 minutes, Jimena de la Peña finished in first position in the women’s division, beating the Canadian Sidney Clement, who finished in second place with a time of 57:26 minutes; the podium was completed by Naomi Ruff of the United States, who reached the finish in 57:47 minutes.
De la Peña Schott had to climb positions after being behind Clement and Ruff in the swimming and cycling events, the lagoon took the lead in the 5 kilometer race and with a time of 18:02, being the best of the modality, she managed to surpass her closest competitors to reach the top step of the podium.
In the swimming test, the athlete from La Laguna needed 9 minutes and 56 seconds to complete the 740 meters, the eleventh fastest time, while the 18.3 kilometers on the bike she covered in 28 minutes and 3 seconds, being the fourth best record among athletes. .
A total of 40 competitors gathered in Sarasota, Florida, with Jimena de la Peña being the only Mexican competing.
The victory became his third podium finish in events approved by World Triathlon. His previous podium finishes were third place at the Triathlon Americas Cup, held in Santa Marta, Colombia, in September 2022; in addition to second place at the Americas Cup, in Long Beach, Calif., in July 2022.
It should be noted that the triathlete from Coahuila greatly exceeded what was done in the 2022 North American Youth Championship, where she finished in fifth position, which clearly shows her growth in this sport.
