MADRID, March 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Spanish rider Lucas Eguibar, world champion in 2021, has qualified for the round of 16 snowboardcross of the Sierra Nevada World Cup, which takes place this Saturday, after overcoming the qualifying phase this Friday in the station Granada ski resort.
This Friday took place the qualifying round before the final with access to the next phase for the best Spanish rider of the Movistar SBX team, Lucas Eguibar. The format chosen by the organization of the Sierra Nevada World Cup was a round in which three to four “runners” competed and in which the two best advanced to the final this Saturday morning.
Lucas Eguibar had Spaniard Álvaro Romero and Canadian Tristan Bell in his series. From the start of the race, Eguibar took control, which he held firmly until he crossed the finish line. He cleverly managed his descent in the Montebajo area and reached the finish line in first position.
Second was Tristan Bell, who beat fellow Spainsnow team member Álvaro Romero in a finish that was resolved in the ‘photofinish’.
“I’m happy like the last time I participated in Sierra Nevada, I feel comfortable, I like the layout, it’s a track where you have to be aggressive. In addition, the team has done great job with the tables and us “I’m quick. I want to compete very well because of some World Cups in which I have not been able to give my best and for that reason alone I come here with a lot of desire, and to have the support of the family and friends made it even more motivated,” commented Eguibar.
On the other hand, Bernat Ribera and Toni Toledo were eliminated after falling behind Italian Lorenzo Sommariva and Austrian Luca Haemmerle; and respectively the Canadian Kalle Koblet and the German Paul Berg.
Lucas Eguibar will play the pass for the quarter-finals this Saturday against Australian Cameron Bolton (AUS), American Hagen Kearney (USA) and Canadian Tristan Bell (CAN). In the next round, the German Martin Noerl (GER), current leader of the SBX World Cup, would be waiting for him.
