Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand revealed that the flying object shot down this Saturday in the Yukon region of northern Canada was “a small cylindrical object”.
He also explained that the aircraft was flying at an altitude of approximately 40,000 feet, or approximately 12.2 kilometers, and was shot down due to the risk it posed to civil aviation at 3:40 p.m. (9:40 p.m., Spanish peninsula time) to 161 kilometers from the border with Alaska, reports Canadian public television, the CBC.
Government sources quoted by the CBC itself said that the first alert to the presence of the object came on Friday evening, when it was still flying over the American region of Alaska.
On Saturday, it already entered the Yukon and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ordered its demolition. It was an American F-22 fighter that fired on the object and shot it down.
“I want to assure the people of Yukon that at no time has their safety been threatened,” said Yukon Chief Minister Ranj Pillai. “I want to commend the Prime Minister for acting decisively to protect the people of Yukon and all Canadians,” he added.
