Peru plans mining investments of $6.9 billion between 2023 and 2024

Lima, March 6 (EFE).- Peru plans to receive mining investments of more than 6,920 million dollars between 2023 and 2024 due to the start of the construction of “important mining projects” that will contribute to the economic recovery of the country. country, said Monday the Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera.

According to a statement from his portfolio, the minister explained that the start of construction of the replacement mining projects Corani, Romina, Magistral and Antamina is planned for this year, respectively in the regions of Puno, Lima and Ancash.

He pointed out that these four projects represent a joint investment of 2,947 million dollars, while for 2024 the implementation of Zafranal and Yanacocha Sulfuros is envisaged, in Arequipa and Cajamarca, with an investment of 3,973 million.

Vera presented this morning from Canada the conference “Challenges, Prospects and Opportunities of Peruvian Mining” at the convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC, for its acronym in English).

In the Canadian city of Toronto, the minister affirmed that the Peruvian government “will continue to work on the modernization and streamlining of procedures to attract and encourage more and better investments, which adequately integrate environmental aspects and work for social peace”.

“We are committed to improving our position in the world, through the promotion of new mining projects and the sustainability of existing operations, by promoting modern, responsible and sustainable investments in harmony with the surrounding communities,” said Vera.

The Minister of Energy and Mines pointed out that, according to estimates by the risk rating agency Standard and Poor’s, in 2022 Peru ranks sixth in the world ranking of countries that call for investment in energy. mining exploration.

He added that, for this year, a total of 74 projects located in 17 regions and an overall amount of committed investment of 596 million dollars are envisaged.

Mining activity plays an important role in the Peruvian economy contributing around 10% of the country’s GDP.
