The world number one couple is back. As before, Leon racquetball player Samantha Salas and Potosi’s Paola Longoria joined forces once again to claim the doubles crown at the 2023 Boston Open.
And it is that since the end of last year both have chosen to try their luck with other colleagues, Salas has done it in a good way with the Monterrey Alexandra Herrera, even winning a few tournaments, while Longoria came on to have Montserrat also from New Leon pairing Mejía and American Rhonda Rajsich, with whom he has long had a big singles rivalry.

But Samantha and Paola regained their rights by beating in the first round 15-5 and 15-2 the pair formed by North American Annie Roberts and Argentina Martina Katz, then they dispatched 15-5 and 15-8 to the representatives from the country of stars and stripes, Hollie Scott and Kelani Lawrence, while in the grand final they beat locals Erika Manilla and Montse Mejía in straight sets 15-4, 14-15 and 11-7.
Similarly, in the individual draw, “La Violenta” beat Canadian Marjolaine Parent in her debut 15-2 and 15-0, then beat Lawrence with partial scores of 15-13, 14-15 and 11- 4, however, his pace was slowed down after losing in the quarter-finals 15-8 and 15-2 to Mejía herself, who took advantage of all the knowledge he had about Salas.
In the end, the fact that the best duo found themselves turned out to be great news for Mexican racquetball, although less good for the rest of the specialty’s Professional Women’s Tour. Next up for the LPRT will be the Battle of the Alamo to be held April 26-29 in San Antonio, Texas.
