Bolivian state-owned YLB received 555 million bolivianos ($78 million) in revenue last year from the sale of lithium carbonate and potassium chloride.
The year-on-year increase of nearly 200% from 2021 was described by President Luis Arce as “an all-time revenue record”.
In 2022, YLB produced 600 tonnes of lithium carbonate, which was exported to China, Russia and the United Arab Emirates, for a total of 367 million bolivianos, the company said in a statement.
In addition, the company sold approximately 55,000 tons of potassium chloride in domestic and foreign markets for 188 million bolivianos. Of this total, 33,500 t were destined for Brazil, Chile, Peru, Malaysia and Paraguay.
in 2024, YLB plans to enter the markets of India and other Asian countries and increase its revenue with the start-up of an industrial lithium carbonate plant, valued at $115 million, which is in construction course in Uyuni. Its capacity is estimated at 15,000 t/year.
Bolivia has one of the largest lithium resources in the world with 21 million tons, which come from the Salar de Uyuni.
