Kira Archuleta, a young American, shares on her Twitter account ICT Tac videos where he shows the ravages of his dermatological disease called hidradenitisand for which many harass her by calling her Freddy Krueger.
Archuleta says she is uploading videos to share her story and help others who have this discomfort and feel insecure.
“I want others to know they are not alone.” “Constant pain, anxiety, sleepless nights, depression, I’ve felt gross for years. I just want to be normal” “I was afraid to show my face because for a long time society told me I was ugly . Even as an adult, people call me horrible names like Freddy Krueger,” he said on his social media.
Additionally, he told the Daily Mail that it took doctors nearly three years to diagnose him with the disease after the first symptoms were detected when he was 14 years old. “I feel prettier because I know I’m not alone. Finally, there’s a group I can belong to,” she says in one of her videos.
The first video she uploaded to TikTok has gone viral and already has over 1.8 million views with many messages of support and encouragement for her and everyone suffering from this disease.
What is hidradenitis suppurativa?
Hidradenitis suppurativa is a skin condition that causes large bumps and lesions. These can be very painful and cause abscesses that drain fluid and pus. They leave scars all over the body if some of these red bumps appear.
In general, this discomfort begins after puberty, adolescence or around the age of 20, being frequent in women, overweight or obese people and smokers.
according US National Institute of Health (NIH)this disease is not contagious, but its exact cause is currently unknown. Although there is no cure, hidradenitis suppurativa can be treated with medication, corticosteroid injections, and sometimes surgery. It can help control painful symptoms.
