Heavy fighting continues around Bakhmut in Ukraine’s Donetsk region as Russian forces continue their offensive towards the key eastern town, the Ukrainian military said on Tuesday.

Over the past 24 hours, several towns and villages in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions have been shelled by Russian forces, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said, adding that Russian forces ” continue to bombard settlements close to the state border, causing civilian casualties and the destruction of private property.”

Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have repelled attacks near Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Vuhledar and other towns in the region, where the situation remains “difficult”, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff said and regional authorities.

Chaotic isolated attacks continued throughout the night along the defense line around the town of Avdiivka, the regional military administration said on Tuesday.

Bombings were also reported in other towns and communities in the region, causing damage to residential buildings. Three civilians were injured in the area in the past 24 hours, according to the regional military administration.

Luhansk region

The situation in the Luhansk region also remains “difficult”, the Luhansk regional military administration said on Tuesday.

During the past day, Ukrainian forces repelled Russian attacks in the Novoselivske and Bilohorivka regions, regional authorities said.

In the city of Luhansk, Russian forces are using the maternity wards of two hospitals to treat wounded soldiers, the Ukrainian army said.

“The enemy continues to suffer heavy casualties and has started to use additional civilian medical facilities to house wounded Russian invaders,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff said.

“Because the enemy is using two maternity wards to treat Russian wounded in the city, it is only possible to give birth at the regional perinatal center in Luhansk, which is sorely lacking in space and creates risks and unfavorable conditions for childbirth,” he added. .

Kharkov region

A 62-year-old civilian was killed in the city of Vovchansk following a shelling, the military administration of the Kharkiv region reported on Tuesday. An 83-year-old woman was injured. His condition is moderately serious, according to regional authorities.

The shelling also damaged the police department building, apartment buildings and warehouses.

In Kupyansk, a regional building of Ukrainian Railways and private houses were damaged, according to regional authorities.
