Mexico defeated Canada 10-3 on Wednesday to qualify as the first Group C to the quarter-finals of the V World Baseball Classic, where they will face the second in group D this Saturday, which will be known tonight and will emerge victorious between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

The ninth tricolor scored the first two innings with a hit of Rowdy Tellez which allowed him to Randy Arozarena, the great figure of the game, and Joey Meneses to go home in the first “inning”, an advantage the Canadians would later discount with a Otto Lopez.

Once again Mexico took the lead in the second set when a brace from Arozarena he drove in a run that Austin Barnes scored, but Bo Naylor homered to put Canada at 3-2 in the fourth inning of the game.

Those led by Benjamin Gil continued unstoppable and in the sixth inning, Arozarena of the Tampa Bay Rays scored a brace that led to three more runs at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona (USA) for a 6-2 victory for Mexico.

Arozarena reached, with the five against Canada, nine RBIs in this World Classic, and broke the record for a Mexican hitter in that tournament. The previous brand belonged to Jorge Cantú, who promoted eight in the 2006 edition.

Mexico increased their power in the seventh “inning” when Edouard Julien hit a home run to make it 9-3 and qualification for the quarter-finals became a reality with a Rowdy Téllez home run that sealed the final 10-3.

José Urquidy was the winning pitcher and Rob Zastryzny the loser.

Mexico’s World Baseball Classic Quarter-Final Pass This hadn’t happened since the 2009 edition and this is the third time that the North Americans have managed to advance to the second round.

Group C day It will end later with the match between the United States and Colombia, in which those of the Stripes and Stars will seek second place from the surface to face Venezuela this Friday in Miami.
