HOLY SUNDAY.- The President of the Republic Luis Abinader on Tuesday thanked the Prime Minister of the Government of Canada, Justin Trudeau, for his quick response in sending technical personnel and the Cubex 2600 drill for the successful rescue of the miners. “Thank you very much on behalf of the Dominican people!” Abinader pointed out via his Twitter account.

Technicians from Canada worked on studies of the geomechanical conditions of the rock. These teams were used in rescue work.

The rescue took place at 11:16 a.m. on Tuesday August 9, after accessing it through the new diversion tunnel known as Rescue Route B, one of two routes that had been created since the start of the rescue plan to reach the point where found the two miners.

Dominican Gregory Méndez Torres and Colombian Carlos Yépez were trapped for 10 days in the tunnel of the Cerro de Maimón mine, province of Monseñor Nouel, where the two administrations worked together to rescue.

Miners underwent a medical evaluation at the time of reaching the surface and transferred, by air to the University Military Hospital, FARD, Dr. Ramón De Lara, to carry out a more thorough examination of his state of health.
