The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, revealed the agenda of the North American Leaders Summit who will take next week with the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the american president, Joe Biden, and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Biden will arrive in Mexican territory next Monday, January 9, at 1:00 p.m. While Trudeau will arrive around 2:00 p.m., the Chancellor reported at the morning press conference in National Palace.

Biden will be received at the National Palace where he will have a private conversation with López Obrador and who will be assisted by Beatriz Gutierrez Muller and Jill Bidenwife of the US President.

Subsequently, the bilateral meeting between the United States and Mexico.

Attending on behalf of the United States will be Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo, US Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan.

Likewise, U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Cohen, National Security Council Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs Juan González and Special Advisor to the President for the Americas Chris Dodd will join. .

In representation of Mexico, will be present the Interior Secretary Adán Augusto López Hernández, Security Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Finance Secretary Rogelio Ramírez de la O, Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Maria Luisa Albores, Economy Secretary Raquel Buenrostro.

They will also be accompanied by the Mexican ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma, the head of the Foreign Ministry’s unit for North America, Roberto Velasco, and the commissioner of the National Institute for Migration ( INM), Francisco Garduño.

Afterwards, Ebrard explained, a trilateral dinner will take place between the three leaders.

In turn, on Tuesday, January 10, the Trilateral Summit of North American Leaders will begin, with a working lunch with delegations from the three nations. Later, the trilateral meeting will take place.

During the summit, they will discuss six main themes: diversity, equity and inclusion; climate change and the environment, as well as ongoing actions; regional competitiveness; migration and development; Health; and security.

The first two were discussed at the previous Summit, held in Washington in 2022, Ebrard said. He also added that next week the focus will be on “a new stage in the region that can potentially expand to the rest of the Americas.”

“Reducing poverty, guaranteeing inclusion, respecting young people, women and people in disadvantaged situations”, reiterated the Chancellor.

In December last year, President López Obrador explained that when meeting with Biden he would present three main proposals to the President of the United States: the formation of an American bloc to deal with Asia, support increased to poor countries by Latin America and the Caribbean and put an end to interference American in the internal politics of the other countries of the continent.

Once the trilateral meeting is over, President Biden will leave Mexico for the United States, the foreign minister said.

Finally, on Wednesday January 11, there will be a bilateral meeting between Mexico and Canada. At the end, Trudeau and López Obrador will give a press conference.

The meeting will take place in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freelandthe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Melanie Jolyand the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, Marie Ng.
