Russian forces carried out a “massive attack” on Monday that caused power cuts in “hundreds of cities” in seven regions of Ukraine, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal reported, while explosions were heard in the capital Kyiv and that large areas were also without light or water.

Several “missiles and drones hit a total of 10 regions, with 18 facilities damaged, mostly related to the energy system,” Shmigal reported on Telegram.

“Russian terrorists have again launched a massive attack on energy system facilities in several regions,” an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency said.

Russia, meanwhile, said its forces struck Ukrainian energy facilities with “high-precision and long-range weapons,” according to a statement from its defense ministry. “All attacks hit their target. All designated targets hit,” the text adds.

Monday’s attacks come two days after the Russian government denounced an attack on its fleet in Crimea carried out by Ukraine with Canadian technology and apparently fired from a ship that was to carry out grain transfer duties.

In turn, the AFP news agency reported that several explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that several neighborhoods were left without electricity and some areas without water after the attacks.

The city had been hit on October 10 and 17 by Iranian-made Russian drones that hit kyiv’s energy infrastructure and caused power outages lasting several days.

On Saturday morning, a massive drone attack was launched against military and civilian ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol Bay on the annexed Crimean Peninsula.

After the attack, Russia suspended the deal to export grain from Ukrainian ports, considered vital to the world’s food supply, although late last night it was agreed that some ships will be able to leave today in order that the cargo they had already planned would not be lost in distributing.
